This is a gameplay directed thread.

Myself among many other people in PWR get match requests daily, from friends or random peeps (either trying to impress us, or just to play). Now, here is the scenario. I pick Devin Surefire. We begin the match. Now, let's talk about Surefire's character.

Devin Surefire is a 28 year old Canadian wrestler. He has been trained in the Hart Dungeon. He was trained by Chris Benoit, one-time winner of Wrestler of the Year and five-time winner of Technical Wrestler of the Year. He's a three-time world champion who has competed with the best of the best, and has defeated some of the best. He has been competing since he was 24. He has been around the block. 

Your character is a rookie, who might have trained with a top-tier superstar, but he has yet to enter into federations and get experience under his belt. 

We get in the match and you just brutalize me and overwhelm me, technically. Does that make sense? No. Out of politeness, I allow you to work your moveset. You take advantage of this and tryhard. That's one story. You think you can reverse every single grapple that Surefire applies to your character...as a rookie. C'mon now, be realistic. If you watch wrestling programming, we do not see Sami Zayn (despite his amazing tenure as El Generico throughout the decade) outwrestling Antonio Cesaro. That is because Sami Zayn is portrayed as a rookie, while Cesaro got some skill. 

Unless that match storyline was supposed to be portrayed that way, then it shouldn't be like what I mentioned earlier. Say that Surefire was booked against Joshua Phoenix. It is very possible that Joshua Phoenix can hang with Surefire's prowess, but only if we're booked that way, or we decide that. I see a lot of matches where rookies try to outwrestle other wrestlers like MONROE, Stryder, Scott Barnett (who might not be as old as the previously mentioned, but he is well-versed in wrestling), and other highly experienced wrestlers. C'mon, guys, think about how these matches would play out in real life. 

If you don't time your spots well, or find the right time to take advantage, you're going to get beaten up. Trying to unbalance this by just relentlessly reversing just makes you look like a tryhard.

The moral to this is that just be patient and stop trying to look great, let it come naturally. Learn your opponent's openings and calls. If you're playing your role right, they'll open up a spot for you to try to get your comeback or get some good moves in. 

Maybe I should make a list of the most experienced wrestlers currently. It'll help.

BUT THEN AGAIN, NO ONE ACTUALLY LOOKS ON THE FORUM, OTHER THAN TO TRY TO WEASEL THEIR WAY INTO PWR.

This is credible... in your own little universe.
But look at it like this;

Your a big fish in the small pond of e-wrestling, or at least you portray yourself as. You might randomly come across someone else, using their "main event/legend" caliber personal caw. For instance, myself. I've used the same guy since SYM, and done numerous e-feds. Since the beginning, my character has been portrayed as a world wide competitor. World champion everywhere he's been. Voted into legendhood in 3 companies thus far. What the best of the best you know bring on the mic, I've done in text. I can do the same on the mic, since I'm a TRUE independent wrestler as well, so speaking infront of a few dozen, hundred, and at the most 1000 people live can attest to that. I can work the "simmed" style with ease as well. So my resume, compared to yours, might match or surpass yours. So you expect me, to put you over? Based on your circle of friends believing you to be at such a level? I could claim the same/vice versa, but I don't care about w's and l's online. I'm not competing to impress you and get into PWR if we cross paths online, I'm playing to have fun, and if I hit a great series to finish a match, or a perfectly timed counter that makes sense to go over, I'm taking it, and you can suck it up princess lol.

But, in your circle, it makes sense for you to go over someone you've never seen/faced before. Not like upsets ever happen in the real world or anything


Offer advice, your in the position to do so here, but don't be closed minded when it comes to facing someone random online, that knows you from here, and expect them to job to you like local talent to put you over while you record it. It's a game, and meant for competition, not squash matches like it's scripted for life. I will reverse where it makes sense, I'll feed you offense when it makes sense. I'll take over where I see an opening and give the same opening right back. Just don't expect a win because your big on this board, and a few sim feds.

Wrestling is give and take...but again, hardly anyone will read this since you guys haven't done anything in the last few weeks, so they don't post here either. As a fan, I check at least twice a day, and if I had the free time to pop online and work/script a match worth someone recording, I'd have tried out/applied for here. I'm pretty sure my extensive bio, background, and creative characters would make the passing grade. I am a friend of Hidamaribread/Ms Brightly, so that's all I need

My statement was not to any other universe, except the Xbox 360 simulation universe. In any other circle, I expect it to be reversed. I try to learn the characters and put them over, if they are fit for that role. That is how I was when I first came here. 

More so, I believe I was a tad passive when addressing who this goes to. Completely random folk who don't know what PWR or the character is, I give leeway. But those who know of the circle/universe, and compete in that universe...yeah, I have had matches where one would just reverse everything and keep full control. :/

I will say that "The Prodigy" is one of the people I look up to in the world of e-fedding. We were around the same circle for many years, but I never really achieved the same success or notoriety as they have. Where he's been a "legend," I've been low, to mid-card talent, so he's not making his accolades up, I can attest to that and his characters really are as creative as he claims. We've planned to but never had a real chance to really work together, I was always on the opposite side of the spectrum as he was and for good reason. I always had to work myself up that ladder and while I've held multiple women's championships as multiple characters I've never held anything higher than a mid-card championship whenever I decided to write as Eddy Introspect or "Sugar" Shayne Williams...which are really the only two male characters I've written as before writing that one RP as Notorious K.Y.N. on the Transcend boards.

In that e-fedding community you had to earn your opportunities and prove yourself to be a good writer. If you could prove you were a good writer and could handle yourself against the likes of someone like "The Prodigy" it was than that doors would open for you. The more friendlier you were and the more open you were to ideas, then the wider that door would open and the better opportunities you had. Unfortunately I joined that circle of e-fedding near the tail-end of its' mass popularity and the e-feds thereafter scarcely would last longer than a season. I was also one of those people that didn't like the be the same character over different e-feds, I liked to test new ideas so I would constantly have to re-climb that ladder. It was fun. I'm not complaining. It was the funnest times in e-fedding for me because it was still a strong community then (but not as strong as it was in 2004-6, it was huge then), different people would join different e-feds so you had opportunity to work with people that weren't in another. Nowadays, it's the same people working the same people and it's tough to feel motivated to stay. Nostalgia has to kick in and that can wear off over time.

In this side, it's different. Writing isn't the priority which is tough for me. Since, every e-fed I've joined, SVR and text-alike, have always been about the writing. It wasn't until three years ago when I joined Sin City Wrestling as Penelope Lea that I even began to finally get noticed for my writing within that community, and I had been part of it for 4 years prior to that. Maybe I was noticed before, I don't know, but it wasn't until SCW that people began to PM me, complementing me on writing. "The Prodigy" even sent me a message wanting to work an angle, which was like the biggest thing for me. Though, I don't remember if that message was on SCW or another e-fed, since SCW closed after one season.

In this community, I gladly play the jobber, and it's because of my past experiences in e-fedding that I do. I don't consider myself to be a "big," name, I don't consider myself to be a "legend," I've felt I've achieved all I'm going to achieve in e-fedding despite never holding anything bigger than women's championship, and it's not my place to rob that type of opportunity from another. I like to make people look good, I like to put on an entertaining match that makes people feel good and laugh. That's my goal over anything else whenever I'm in a match. People don't seem to understand that, and that's when a match could get frustrating.

Just, you have to look at things at a more broader sense, and you have to be willing to teach people who are new to the scene who don't quite know the little tricks yet. Let them go over (because honestly losing isn't a big deal), ask if they felt it was a "good" match, and then give you two cents if you disagree, or feel the need to educate them. That way the introduction into teaching this "style" of play is more positive to the person and won't immediately ignite drama.

I agree, and disagree at the same time.

I agree that the same people that want to virtually wrestle should study actual wrestling. If they do watch actual wrestling, and get it, they'll be able to translate it. But because the game is so limited, and there are very few who excel at a certain style, it narrows down the possibilities even more for other people to be different and effective without being compared to Sam, Billy and Joe. There's nobody who can't learn how to do this. If you can learn match, or how to spell, or how to tie shoes, you can learn how to virtually wrestle by simply studying wrestling. Of course there will be people that don't catch on as quick as others, but they will progress with time. Nobody's going to learn this within 1 month, or 3, or 6 months. Wrestling itself is complex, and crafting it takes time.

I disagree that "rookies" have to suppress themselves in matches with more experienced players, because someone like Phoenix, who clearly has IT shouldn't have to bump himself down just to let the elder guy work their match. This is entirely my opinion and perspective on it as well, not trying to preach anything. I would rather a new comer wrestle me with everything he has/knows, rather than have him hold back just to make me look like the more experienced guy, strictly for match quality & fun. On the other hand, I can definitely see where the notion of letting the more experienced guy get over more would be the way to go in terms of storytelling & I am inclined to agree with that, but when it comes to just exhibition matches, I wouldn't want to suppress anybody. If they can hang, I let em hang and if they are good enough to know how to work their match without being a control freak, then it shouldn't be a problem for them to fully flesh themselves out. I say work "their" match because I think that if 1 person works true to his style and character, it would never conflict with his opponents style/character and will make for a great match, even if they have similar styles.
